This webinar will share the collaborative development of an anger management program tailored to the needs of immigrants. The Cross Cultural Counselling and Intercultural Education teams will provide an overview of content presented to clients and the approach they collaboratively developed which includes emotional psychoeducation, cultural influences and healthy relationships.
Presenter biographies
Isolde Schmid added a certificate in Intercultural Studies from UBC Vancouver to her Masters in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. Earlier she obtained a Certificate in Social Pedagogy from Germany as well. Isolde is the team leader of the Intercultural Education Program at Catholic Social Services in Edmonton. With the theoretical knowledge together with her experience of juggling three cultures raising her two children, she developed the Parenting in 2 cultures program. Together with Janna Mulholland, we developed the Take Control of Anger Program. She likes to spend outdoors all year round.
Janna Mulholland is the Lead Counsellor in the Cross-Cultural Counselling Program at Catholic Social Services, Immigration and Settlement Service. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Registered Counselling Therapist in Alberta. For her 8 years working with newcomers, Janna has worked to provide culturally competent and adapted counselling as well as a variety of therapeutically beneficial programs including nature based programing, support groups, psychoeducational presentations, and culturally grounded anger management. She graduated from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. with a Master’s in Art Therapy and has certificates in Clinical Traumatology and EMDR therapy. She has a keen interest in helping newcomers overcome stress and trauma to be successful in Canada.
