Accessibility

Find information about accessible entrances, parking, washrooms, elevators and the availability of wheelchairs at our Queen Street site, College Street site, and Ursula Franklin Street site.

Occasionally there are service disruptions, such as wheelchair entrances or an elevator out of service. As well as notifying patients and family members ahead of time whenever possible, the department responsible will endeavour to post notice of the disruption, estimated time for correction and the nearest alternative.

CAMH is in the midst of an exciting redevelopment of our Queen Street site, where most of our services will be consolidated in the future. New buildings will have enhanced accessibility features. We will provide updates as changes occur due to construction.

Transportation at CAMH

The CAMH bus that transports patients on outings is an accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift and designated space for wheelchairs in the bus. Our taxi provider can provide accessible vehicles upon request, and in keeping with the AODA and taxi regulations, their staff are trained in accessibility requirements to support customers.

Telephone relay service

Bell Relay Service (BRS) can help people use a TTY device to make or receive calls. There is no charge for local calls. To place a call through BRS, call 1 800 855-0511.

Cultural Interpretation Services including American Sign Language (ASL/FSL) interpretation

CAMH patients have access to trained professional interpreters in a range of situations, including assessments, consultations, intake and meetings. The interpreters facilitate communication between service providers and patients whose preferred language is not English, and patients who are deaf.

We utilize the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative and the Government of Ontario’s guidelines on our website. CAMH believes that our website is in compliance; however, if you find something that you cannot access, please contact webmaster@camh.ca with a link to the item and details of the situation. Please also note that CAMH does have some links to third-party content, and we cannot control the accessibility of such content.

BrowseAloud

By clicking on the BrowseAloud logo at the top of any camh.ca page, the user will launch this accessibility tool that adds speech, reading and translation support to the website. The tool is particularly useful for people with print disabilities, dyslexia, low literacy, mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.
