Despite our universal health care system, there are a number of reasons why someone may be living in Ontario without public health coverage (OHIP). People who are uninsured due to their immigration status face considerable barriers to health care, receive differential care, and have poorer health outcomes. As we take action to address health inequities, racism, and exclusion in our health system, it is critical that we understand and address the needs of uninsured populations.

Presenter biography
Rebecca Cheff is a researcher at the Wellesley Institute, where she advances health equity and action on the social determinants of health in Toronto, through research, policy analysis and convening. As the co-chair of the Health Network for Uninsured Clients, she works with over 40 health and social service organizations to reduce barriers to health care for Toronto residents without public health insurance.
