Corey Bernard
Corey Bernard is the Director of Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Anti-Racism at Ontario Health. Corey has many years of experience leading the development and implementation of equity-advancing strategies into health care organizations at multiple levels of the Ontario health system, including the Mississauga Halton LHIN, Health Quality Ontario, North York General Hospital and other community hospital settings.
Corey is a strong advocate for community-based organizing and engagement, and is committed to serving community by increasing equity and justice. Corey volunteers with The Anti-Racism External Advisory Group for the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, The Black Health Equity Working Group, and The Black Experiences in Health Care Symposium Planning Committee .
Peter Farvolden
Dr. Peter Farvolden is a clinical psychologist. His practice is in the assessment and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, and stress related problems, often in the context of workplace injury, disability management, and return-to-work. He has worked in a variety of public and private settings in roles that have included assessment, treatment, research, and training.
The focus of his career has been on using technology to scale evidence-based assessment and treatment and make it more accessible. His past roles have included Research Scientist in the Section on Personality and Psychopathology and Head of the Psychological Trauma Program at CAMH. He currently acts as a Mental Health Consultant to the Global Medical Team at Reassurance Group of Americaden, PhD, CPsych
Gwendolyn Fearing- Afflick
Gwendolyn has over ten years of clinical social work experience in children's mental health and school social work practice. She has eight years of experience with supporting research and manuscript preparation in various areas such as, implementation of evidence-informed practices in children’s mental health, community-based photovoice with youth, cyberbullying, and family involvement in addictions treatment.
Gwendolyn's doctoral research focused on caregivers' mental health literacy for child and adolescent mental health. Her research interests include mental health literacy among Black youth and families. Gwendolyn is completing a continuing education certificate in addictions; and currently, she is an implementation support coach and the area lead for prevention and early intervention at School Mental Health Ontario.
Wendy Hepburn
Wendy Hepburn joined the office of the President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada in 2019, where she worked to advance strategic partnerships with external stakeholders, develop an international strategy, and served as the Canadian Liaison for the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership to improve mental health and addictions services. Wendy played a core role in the framing of the Commission’s strategic plan Answering the Call, and lead development of the resulting operational plan. In addition, she worked to advance the Commission’s efforts to obtain charitable status, and spearheaded the launch of an equity, diversity, and inclusion engagement strategy for the Commission.
Wendy previously worked with the Privy Council Office, Treasury Board Secretariat, and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. She holds degrees in political science and Canadian studies, and is a dedicated, if slow long-distance runner, volunteer doula, and supporter of the Parkdale Food Centre.
Lindsey Thompson
Lindsey Thomson joins the Advisory committee wearing many hats. Lindsey’s career focuses on the intersection of many roles in the mental health field, including providing support as a Registered Psychotherapist in the public and private sector, Clinical Supervisor in university and private settings and Clinical and Policy Advisor for non-profits and public agencies.
Lindsey brings a unique perspective through her experience working as a Psychotherapist and Clinical Consultant in the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy program. In addition to these roles, Lindsey is the Director of Public Affairs for the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. The CCPA is a national professional association representing over fourteen thousand mental health professionals and advocates for improved access to mental health services across Canada.
