Psychology has a very active graduate level training program in clinical psychology. It has the country’s largest single site pre-doctoral residency program in clinical psychology accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (next site visit due 2020-2021). This specialist program currently has 13 full-time funded positions (2 child, 11 adult). It also has a practicum training program for graduate students who are at earlier stages of their training. There is no "cap" on the number of students who can be accepted into this training; it is simply dependent on supervisor availability in the area(s) of interest. Trainees from both streams come from universities across Canada and the United States.
Please see the attached links for information regarding the psychology residency and practicum programs and their associated application process:
Please be advised that the application deadline for practicum placements during summer 2018 and for the 2018-2019 academic year was at the beginning of February 2018. NO additional applications are being accepted at the present time. The formal notification of placement offers is March 23, 2018. Due to the high volume of practicum applications, individual supervisors will ONLY contact applicants to schedule interviews prior to the notification deadline.
Many psychology staff have cross-appointments at the University of Toronto, including the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry, at OISE/UT, and at York University.
The majority of psychologists at CAMH are actively involved in systematic programmes of research, often funded by external grants. There are a variety of research opportunities available for graduate students, including collection of M.A. and Ph.D. thesis data, as well as post-doctoral positions. Publications by psychology staff can be found in the annual report published by the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.
There is a Psychology Council at CAMH.
