The distress is heightened when those involved don’t understand what is happening, or what can be done to help. This guide outlines the symptoms, phases, causes, and types of psychosis. It also describes treatment and support options. Having this knowledge helps to increase understanding and promote recovery for patients. This guide has been updated with input from patients and families.

CAMH Youth Mental Health Research Expo celebrated the vital research being done and the wonderful community of research participants, youth and family advisors who make our research possible at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Researchers, PhD. students, research analysts and youth engagement specialists presented their work at different booths. These presentations shared knowledge and early findings from ongoing high-impact research.

Evidence shows that people with strong family support have the greatest chance for recovery from mental illness. Recognizing the critical role family plays, the Slaight Centre is developing platforms that provide useful, clear and evidence-based information to help family members in their support role and maintain the gains of treatment.

Supporting a Family Member with Schizophrenia: Practical Strategies for Daily Living
A practical guide for families and other caregivers that outlines support strategies they can use to help people with the illness engage in life, so their loved ones can work, study, enjoy their leisure time and form meaningful relationships. Written by Dr. Sean Kidd, CAMH clinical psychologist specializing in youth issues, with colleagues.
