Using the development and implementation of the Women Sharing Heritage (WiSH) program model, this webinar aims to inspire innovative ways that settlement and community agencies in smaller cities and rural and remote areas can harness local culture, nature, and community to positively impact the mental health of refugee women who have experienced trauma and/or sexual and gender-based violence.
Presenters' Biographies
Kimberly Orren is the founder of Fishing for Success, a nonprofit social enterprise located in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador. Fishing for Success provides opportunities for men and women to reconnect with nature, ancestors, and community through fishing heritage.
Originally from Iran, Suzy Haghighi now calls Newfoundland and Labrador home. She is the Director of Settlement Services at the Association for New Canadians, which is a settlement service providing organization for newcomers, and a registered social worker.
Kimberly and Suzy designed the Women Sharing Heritage (WiSH) program to connect newcomer women with Canadian born women. and with land, sea, and community to share and celebrate one another’s culture, tradition, and strength.
