The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital in Toronto has launched a Global Learning Academy. This online academy brings together all of the hospital’s mental health and addictions education in one accessible platform.
The Academy connects learners across Canada and around the world with evidence-based learning opportunities for healthcare providers (e.g., nurses, physicians, allied health), community service providers, patients, families and the public.
What’s available through the Academy
The Global Learning Academy offers a growing range of learning opportunities in multiple formats, including self-paced online courses, hybrid courses, short skill-building modules, webinars, and accredited programs. Many offerings are free, while others provide opportunities for professional development and continuing education.
Learning areas include a broad range of mental health and addictions topics for public education, with learning opportunities suited for both clinical and community-based practice, as well as for family and caregiver support. New learning opportunities continue to be added over time, allowing individuals and organizations to return to the platform as their needs evolve.
Learning designed for real-world practice
The courses and resources available through the Global Learning Academy are grounded in clinical evidence and informed by lived experience. Learning focuses on building practical knowledge and skills that can be applied in day-to-day work, whether you are supporting patients directly, working alongside families and caregivers, or contributing to broader community-based services.
For providers working with immigrants and refugees, the Academy offers learning that supports trauma-informed approaches, strengthens understanding of mental health and substance use, and builds confidence in responding to complex and intersecting needs. Content is designed to be relevant across a range of roles and settings, including non-clinical environments.
Flexible, accessible learning
The Academy was built with accessibility and flexibility in mind. Learning can be accessed on demand and completed at a pace that fits busy schedules. This approach supports providers working across systems who may not have access to traditional in-person training or dedicated professional development time.
