Evaluation in Education: Knowledge Dissemination

This post is the last post in a four-part series looking back at the Evaluation team’s year. In this final post, we cover knowledge dissemination—how the Evaluation team has shared their methodologies and lessons learned.

In June 2016, CAMH’s Evaluation team presented two posters at the Canadian Evaluation Society’s annual conference. The posters presented were:
• Innovation evaluation methodology: Using simulation for curriculum improvement (also presented at the SimOne conference)
• Overcoming challenges in participant engagement in program evaluation: A case study.

We also presented two posters at the Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA)’s Annual Conference in October: 
• The Medical Psychiatry Collaborative Care Certificate program: Findings from an education needs assessment with healthcare providers
• Innovative simulation training for healthcare professionals examining medical-psychiatry health care issues among children and youth (also presented at Donald Wasylenki Day, February 2017).

These posters showed the critical work that the Evaluation and Simulation teams are contributing to the MPA.

The CAMH Teaching Network, inclusive of Evaluation team members, conducted a project looking at a phased pilot motivational interviewing program and presented a poster at the University of Toronto’s Donald Wasylenki Day titled: Motivational interviewing training and support for clinical staff in an inpatient mental health setting: An implementation science approach to inform intervention design.

The development of our posters could not have been possible without collaboration with our Education editors and designers. We are grateful for our partnerships both internal and external to CAMH and the support of our department in recognizing the importance of evaluation in program planning and decision-making.

We are looking forward to sharing more of our work in 2017–2018! Already, we know that in the upcoming year, we will be presenting on some of our current projects through several posters, presentations and workshops at upcoming evaluation and medical education conferences.
