Dr. Katherine Zukotynski is a senior scientist within the Brain Health Imaging Centre and a physician at CAMH. She is also a part-time professor in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Zukotynski completed a BASc in Engineering Science, followed by Medical school and Radiology residency through the University of Toronto. She completed Nuclear Medicine training and a Fellowship in oncologic imaging through Harvard Medical School. Subsequently, she completed a PhD in artificial intelligence (AI) applied to brain imaging through the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, while working as a radiologist and nuclear medicine physician. She has been on staff for several years at Harvard Medical School, the University of Toronto and McMaster University.
Dr. Zukotynski is certified to practice nuclear medicine and radiology in both Canada and the USA. She is also a Professional Engineer. She has received awards for teaching, mentorship and research. In 2025, she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Nuclear Medicine for her work and contribution to the field. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, and a Fellow of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.
Areas of Research
Dr. Zukotynski’s research focuses broadly on the application of AI in medical imaging and the use of radiopharmaceuticals to advance patient care. Specifically, her recent research has been focused in the area of neurology and oncology. She obtained the first Health Canada Approval for PSMA targeted PET/CT using 18F-DCFPyL in 2015 and was co-PI on a grant to bring PSMA targeted therapy across Canada awarded in 2018 through the Canadian Cancer Society. She is currently investigating the role of cerebral blood flow including small vessel disease on the development of cognitive impairment and the use of novel as well as established radiopharmaceuticals in understanding cerebral pathology. She is also actively investigating the application of AI in the context.
