Dr. Emily Murrell is a staff scientist with the Brain Health Imaging Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). She is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
She received her PhD in Organic Chemistry and Molecular Imaging from The University of Western Ontario in 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Len Luyt. Her PhD research involved the development and discovery of peptide-based imaging agents (PET, SPECT, & optical) for GPCR targets in oncology. After completing her PhD, she trained as a postdoctoral fellow at CAMH under the supervision of Dr. Neil Vasdev in 11C- and 18F-radiolabelling of small molecule radiotracers for neuroimaging. She then joined Bristol Myers Squibb as a radiochemist for two years, where she was involved in developing radiotracers for use in preclinical PET imaging for drug discovery in neurosciences.
Areas of Research
Dr. Murrell’s research at CAMH focuses on the medicinal chemistry, radiolabelling, and preclinical evaluation of new radiotracers for PET imaging in the central nervous system for neurological indications of all types, as well as for evaluation of drug candidates. Additionally, she is interested in novel radiochemical techniques and reaction capabilities with carbon-11 and fluorine-18.
