Dr. Scott Veldhuizen is a staff scientist with the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research and the INTREPID lab in the Addictions Research Division at CAMH. He is also an assistant professor (status only) in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Veldhuizen received an undergraduate degree in Classical Civilization and Economics from the University of Toronto and an MA and PhD in Population Health from Brock University. His PhD used simulation methods to explore age-related measurement errors in assessments of child development.
Areas of Research
Scott has worked in the areas of psychiatric epidemiology, homelessness, addiction, and child development. His current research is focused on improving outcomes of smoking cessation treatment, largely by using quantitative methods to draw inferences from observational data. His recent research has concerned care personalization, including optimizing dosing of nicotine replacement therapy, seasonality, effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and potential applications of newer technologies and methods, including machine and statistical learning.
