CAMH is conducting a youth-led Photovoice project to investigate youth perspectives on COVID-19 vaccine confidence and hesitancy. We want to hear from youth who have experienced any kind of mental health challenges such as anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, personality disorders, etc.; and/or challenges with substances such as alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, stimulants, etc.
This project was co-designed with youth, by youth, and for youth. This Photovoice project uses photos to communicate. Photography empowers us to view the world through a new lens. Photovoice draws on the importance of our individual voices and the power of documentary photography to create social change.
Researchers at CAMH want to give youth the opportunity to share their perspectives on the COVID-19 vaccine, to help stimulate community dialogue and guide important health discussions among vaccine-hesitant Canadian youth.
The opinions of people from all identities and backgrounds are essential to understand how youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges view COVID-19 vaccine.
We are looking for participants who:
- Youth from across Canada aged 14-24
- Experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges
- Experience with vaccine hesitancy but are willing to talk positively about solutions to increase vaccine confidence.
People who take part in the study will answer a few demographic questions and have the chance to complete seven photography workshops. We will then hold focus group discussions to understand the perspectives that emerged through their photography. After the completion of the study individuals will have the opportunity to participate in knowledge mobilization events to publicly share their photography. All study activities will be completed over several months. Participants will compensation for taking part in all research activities (workshop and focus group discussions). This does not include knowledge mobilization events.
