Overview
This course covers the use of buprenorphine extended-release (known as bup-XR, which is an injection) to treat opioid use disorder. It describes the process of initiating a patient on the medication, as well as how to manage missed doses, acute pain and other clinical scenarios, and it includes a case study. It should take 1-1.5 hours to complete.
Audience
This is for clinicians who are already prescribing, dispensing and administering the sublingual form of buprenorphine-naloxone (bup-nlx) medication.
For health care workers who are unfamiliar with buprenorphine medications, we recommend the course titled, Buprenorphine Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder, which covers the fundamentals of both forms of the medication (sublingual and injected).
