CAMH is committed to a vision of a world in which everyone believes life is worth living. On World Suicide Prevention Day – Sunday, September 10 – we want to make sure everyone takes a minute to change a life and turn our vision into reality.
CAMH's 13 Reasons Why Not
This project was originally conceived as a response to the popular Netflix drama “13 Reasons Why” about teen suicide. But in the real world, the reasons are often unknowable and more complex.
In this series, twelve CAMH employees and one client agreed to share their stories about how suicide has affected their lives.

The Mysterious Barricades Concert in Support of World Suicide Prevention Day
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is proud to partner with the Mysterious Barricades Concert Society and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music to help promote a free concert of classical music this Sunday, September 10th in support of World Suicide Prevention Day.
Mysterious Barricades is a national, all-day event celebrating the healing power of music. Two hundred classical musicians in 15 cities from coast to coast are volunteering their time to take part in the free concerts, several of which will also be streamed online. The event is the brainchild of Edmonton opera singer Elizabeth Turnbull, whose husband died by suicide two years ago.
“I want people at risk of suicide to know how much their lives matter, and that we as a country and a community wish for the stigma of mental illness to become a thing of the past,” says Turnbull. “More and more, people are coming forward with their personal struggles and that is exactly what needs to happen. People need to feel safe in talking about their mental health and encouraged to seek help.”
CAMH VP Education Dr. Ivan Silver will be among the speakers making opening remarks in advance of the concert, which will be held from noon to 1:30 pm at Walter Hall in the Edward Johnson Building at 80 Queen’s Park.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
