Title: “Open Windows”
"Open Windows depicts impressions of a quiet scene with natural elements. The viewer’s entrance into the piece is initiated by the suggested architecture of windows in motion. The eye is directed all over the canvas - in and out of trees, around shadows, through window panes and through branches – with a constant return to the one tree in the center of the sky, above the water as a grounding element. The form of a central tree is intentionally suggested, instead of clearly defined, as it invites the viewer to interpret the colours and shapes and connect them to a memory or concept.
The scene is void of other human figures, leaving open room for quiet contemplation of the artwork at the viewer’s discretion. The work not only highlights the calming aspects of the natural world but also is intended to reflect an ever-changing relationship of our self to the world around us; paint is layered, dragged, covered up and brought back on top of various forms to depict the constant re-interpretation of how we view the world and how we interact with it."
