Title: "Sun Dappled Orchard"
"Research is a big part of my art practice and references various histories and environments. Much of my work is inspired by discarded imagery and antiquated perspectives, which I reconsider and reinterpret through drawing.
The drawing process is innovative and results in a highly distinctive aesthetic. This work attempts to value and remember people, nature and the important relationships between them.
What is remembered is largely influenced by what is valued. This landscape recognizes a space that has been forgotten by and into history. With this work, I deconstruct a record of the past and permeate it with tiny spaces that didn’t previously exist.
The depicted landscape has sunlight illuminating the leaves of trees and grass in a quiet natural setting. The tiny spaces within the image create opportunities for the eyes of the viewer to fill in the ‘missing pieces’ and to engage, contemplate and have their own unique and individual experience with, and of, the work.
The reduction of our natural environments due to climate change or new developments inspires me to reconsider and remember those landscapes that we have experienced, that we have enjoyed, and that have helped us grow, develop and transform, like the landscapes themselves."
