Title: “Eagle Bay”
"My painting, Eagle Bay, is based on an image from decades ago of a sunset scene on a cottage deck. Slanted rays of light infuse the porch with dappled golden hues. Several indistinct figures can be seen leaning on the railing or lounging in chairs, celebrating their friendship and closeness. An overall light green paint glaze knits together the small house with the landscape beyond. Large capsules of solid colour on the surface echo the ambient tones of the countryside.
This painting can enhance the patient and visitor experience with its nostalgic portrayal of fellow humans in a happy innocent time. Rejoicing in their togetherness, the people depicted here are also at peace with their surroundings. The distinctively rich reds and earth tones and the vertical brushstrokes in the artwork can help to serve as intuitive wayfinding colours, guiding visitors on their way through CAMH. The multi-coloured brushstrokes are vibrant but not clashing or disturbing.
The warm hues of Eagle Bay interweave the manmade structure with the surrounding outdoors. In this way, the painting portrays humans relaxing with and assimilating into the natural world.
Abstracted brushstrokes suggestive of shimmering sunlight accentuate the restorative qualities of the environment. This artwork is very optimistic and celebratory."
