Title: “Deep Blue #2”
"In Deep Blue #2, I start by staining the middle of the canvas with a splotch of colour and allow it to inspire and guide me towards what is to come next. I then layer and overlap the surface tightly with paint until the dynamic tensions of colour, form, and texture reveal the biomorphic or broken geometric shapes. The overall structure engages the mind and the eye to create the illusion of a moving circle. I have been creating paintings and prints of circles as a form and an idea for a long time. Circles are a symbol of perfection and immortality, indicate totality, and the belief that the world somehow rounds off into one unified whole at the core of our relationship to it. This universally recurring form resonates with our everyday lives and embodies the diverse metaphorical experience of our perpetual world.
My intent is for my art to convey the concept of perseverance and optimism as a message of hope and courage to equally engage children and adults. The meditative process of making Deep Blue#2, which creates an intangible and fantastical space, is decidedly spiritual and blissful. The blends of blues have a calming and relaxing effect on the viewers. It captures our imaginations and takes us to faraway places while being so close to us."
