Title: “All’s Well”
"This work is composed of eight individual panels of various needle-worked images depicting letters that spell ALL'S WELL. The phrase is derived from the title of the Shakespeare play and is composed in a way that the words could also be read as ALL' SWELL. In either case, the message is meant to suggest a good outcome.
The panels are stitched together and mounted on natural linen burlap. The letters are depicted using a few techniques of traditional needlework; embroidery, needlepoint and rug hooking. The variety of yarns range from natural cotton, wool and linen, both un-dyed and colourful, and synthetic blends with polymers that glitter. With these combinations I aim to end harmonies in seemingly disparate materials. The different yarns and methods also give a lot of different surface textures that can be appreciated at a close view. The colours are vibrant and playful. Each component is hand done, and the material itself has an aesthetic that is meant to be warm and somehow comforting: hopefully a significant counterpoint to the hospital setting.
The slightly abstracted letter forms and overall graphic design invite repeated viewing and interpretation."
