TORONTO, May 3, 2017 - For Lisa Hudson, dialogue is not only essential to helping break-down stigma, and to bringing people together around the importance of mental health, it is also the key to getting more people the reach out for the help that they need.
“I think that talking about mental health helps people realize that this is something we all encounter,” she says.
“It should not be hidden and whispered about behind closed doors.
We need to end the stigma and promote dialogue, and make sure that everyone who needs it has access to the very best mental health resources out there.”
That is why, as a member of the National Committee helping to drive CAMH’s new Difference Makers – 150 Leading Canadians for Mental Health initiative, she is most excited to see the stories of everyday Canadians celebrated.
“The nominations that inspire and move me the most are the people who don't even realize that what they are doing – regardless of how small – really makes a difference in people's lives.”
“I know lots of people who are making contributions ever day to mental health,” says Lisa, who alongside her husband Mike Hudson, former NHL star and business owner, is well-known for her philanthropic work in the health sector.
“Not only the doctors, researchers and philanthropists, but more importantly, those who just go about their everyday lives and contribute without even really knowing it. In my eyes, these are the people who really deserve to be recognized and commended for what they do,” she says.
