TORONTO, June 30, 2016 - CAMH President and CEO Dr. Catherine Zahn has been named to the federal Task Force on Marijuana Regulation announced today in Ottawa.
Chaired by Hon. Anne McLellan, former Deputy Prime Minister and a former Minister of Justice and Health, the Task Force will consult with a broad range of experts, including Canadians, on how to legalize and regulate access to marijuana in a way that protects the health and safety of Canadians of all ages. Their advice will be considered by the Government of Canada as a new framework is developed.
As Canada’s leading academic health sciences centre specializing in addiction and mental health, CAMH has a strong team of researchers and experts on cannabis, and published a Cannabis Policy Framework document calling for a public health approach to cannabis regulation in 2014.
“I am pleased to be asked to be part of the federal Task Force on Marijuana Regulation,” said Dr. Zahn today. “There are important questions that the Government has asked us to consider, and I’m looking forward to advancing public health solutions with, and for, Canadians.”
