Dr. Alex Abramovich was recognized by York Regional Police on November 20th for his work with youth homelessness and issues regarding trans health and inclusion.
“Sadly, the fight for trans rights is far from over,” said Dr. Abramovich, scientist with CAMH’s Institute for Mental Health Policy Research. “Every year the list of names of trans people murdered across the world grows. This year, the list is longer than last year, and significantly longer than the year before.”
Dr. Abramovich is leading a study that investigates LGBTQ2S youth homelessness across York Region. His hope is to speak to as many queer and trans youth in York Region as possible and to collect data that will help support the development of life saving programs and policies.
“I work with some of the most marginalized young people,” he said. “They are also some of the most resilient and bravest people that I have ever met.”
