CAMH is beginning the next phase of our Queen Street Redevelopment Project on October 26, 2017. Two much-needed new hospital buildings with 235 beds for people with acute and complex mental illness will be built along Queen Street West, and Shaw Park will be enhanced. Construction will continue through the spring of 2020. While the CAMH site will look different for some time, and we will have a large number of construction personnel and equipment on site, there will be no disruption to our hospital services.
As a client or family member, here are some important changes to note:
Fenced-off areas around construction:
Fencing and covered walkways around construction areas will be erected on our site starting October 26. This means that the green space around 80 Workman Way will be fenced off and inaccessible. Construction fencing will also surround a large part of Shaw Park and the green space currently between Gordon Bell Road and White Squirrel Way.
Entering the site via car:
Workman Way will be closed to traffic. White Squirrel Way will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Please use Lower Ossington Avenue or Gordon Bell Road if you are entering the site via car.
Parking:
Street and surface parking on site will be affected, but CAMH parking lots will remain open throughout the construction period. Please allow extra time before arriving at our site to find parking onsite or nearby.

Noise from construction:
Major construction does not commence until December, 2017. The importance of minimizing noise and disruption for our patients, staff and neighbours throughout the construction period is a priority for CAMH and our construction partners.
We recognize that these changes may cause some inconvenience to our clients, families, staff and partners. We appreciate your patience during this time. Once completed, this phase of the CAMH Queen Street Redevelopment will transform care for patients with complex and acute mental illness, challenge stigma and discrimination, and enhance our city.
