Community Events: Our vision is to foster an inclusive and welcoming campus for clients, family, staff and the community. One of the ways we do that is by hosting events onsite to welcome everyone. In pre-COVID days you may have joined us for Creative on Queen, Doors Open TO, or the ever popular Toronto Flower Market in the TD Commons green space. We look forward to welcoming you back when protocols allow us to safely gather.
Community Use of Space: We invite community based groups to host events on site through our Community Use of Space program – in keeping with our mission and mandate. We have hosted numerous theatre, music and art events including LUMINATO and Nuit Blanche. If you or a group you know of is interested, contact communityevents@camh.ca for more information on how to apply.
Business Walkabouts: Several times a year our community engagement folks will stroll the local community businesses to introduce ourselves, hear from you and see if you have any questions about your neighbour CAMH. Keep your eye out for the next walkabout!
CAMH supports social enterprise businesses that you can visit on site. Two exciting partnerships are with Foodshare for our Sunshine Garden, and the Out of This World Cafe.
We invite you to visit Out of This World Cafe on Lower Ossington. ‘OTW’ is staffed and managed entirely by people with histories of mental health and addiction challenges, providing great good, fair trade coffee and vital employment experience. In fact CAMH is unique in health care in that all of our cafes at CAMH are operated by this social enterprise partnership (other than patient food services).
Sunshine Garden is an organic garden run in partnership with Foodshare, which grows and sells produce on site. A short video is found here. The Sunshine Garden is a creative partnership in urban food production for volunteer client gardeners with the support of expert Foodshare staff. Drop by for a visit in the south west corner of the campus for this hidden gem.
Heritage Wall Plaques Dedicated to Patient Labourers: Central to the ongoing Queen Street redevelopment is a poignant reminder of the facility's past: a Heritage Wall, parts of which date back to 1852. Visitors may learn more about the historic Wall on a self-guided tour of eight plaques, located along the Wall with an accompanying audio description by dialing: 416-535-8501, ext. 31530. Please note that the plaques will be updated for increased accessibility in the coming months.
