CAMH will receive up to $2 million for its Queen Street redevelopment project through Ontario Green Bonds, a financing tool to raise capital to support environmentally friendly, low-carbon infrastructure projects.
The announcement was made at CAMH February 2nd, by Finance Minister Charles Sousa, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Glen Murray, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca and Trinity Spadina MPP Han Dong.
Finance Minister Sousa said CAMH’s redevelopment project is one of eight infrastructure projects around the province to obtain funding from the second issuing of Ontario Green Bonds which raised $750 million. The redevelopment project is considered environmentally friendly hospital infrastructure “designed to achieve LEED® gold-level certification that will reduce energy costs by 27 per cent and include green spaces.”
"Green bonds give all Ontarians the opportunity to invest in climate actions that will protect the environment, strengthen the economy and improve everyday life," said Minister Murray.
CAMH President and CEO Dr. Catherine Zahn said she was delighted that the province chose to make this announcement at CAMH.
“CAMH is the midst of a transformational development. Our redevelopment is an amazing symbol of what we are doing in the world of mental health,“ she said.
“For CAMH, being green is fundamental to our vision: to create respectful and dignified spaces that promote healing and recovery, contribute to the vitality of our community, advance positive social change, and contribute to a sustainable future for our planet.”
