Cherry is one of our favourite colleagues. A diligent therapy worker, she occasionally pops by our offices on Thursdays to check in with staff. She’s also a very good dog!
Who are you and what is your position at CAMH?
My name is Cherry and I am a volunteer dog in the pet therapy program.
What programs are you currently involved with?
I visit two inpatient units—the Women’s Inpatient Unit and the Early Psychosis Unit on College Street. Nice people from PSSP also come and take me for walks during the day. The library staff are particularly nice to me and provide me with ample treats when I visit. I have people visiting me throughout the day where I occupy office space every Thursday (or should I say Cherryday—the day has been renamed after me!)
What is the goal of this program?
To get full body massages from as many people possible! No, kidding! (Kind of). My goal is to be there for people who either love dogs or miss their dogs while they are receiving treatment at CAMH. I just hang out with people and hope that my visit will make their day brighter.
Who is this program geared toward?
It is geared towards clients who are at CAMH for treatment but I think I get just as much out of the visits as they do. Also staff. There are some pretty nice people who work here and they too need some pet therapy.
