The CAMH Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services provides relevant, accurate and timely services that support specific diagnoses and suitable therapies.
Our team of Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLA/T) and Technologists (MLT) work diligently to deliver specialty services for CAMH Inpatients and Outpatients in support of clinical care and research.
The Clinical Laboratory at CAMH is licensed to provide on-site specimen collection and testing services for CAMH Inpatients and Outpatients, primarily in the disciplines of Biochemistry (including Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Toxicology), and Hematology.
A number of biochemistry specialty tests have been developed in-house (referred to as Laboratory Developed Tests or LDTs) e.g. serum/plasma clozapine levels or urine broad spectrum drug screens.
The CAMH Clinical Laboratory proudly holds an ISO 15189 Plus accreditation certificate issued by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics.
No appointment is required for laboratory specimen collection.

ECG
Routine electrocardiograms (ECG) are performed by our MLT/A team. These non-invasive tests record electrical patterns of the heart e.g. how fast the heart is beating, how steady or irregular the heart beats are. They help assess risk to patients pre-medication administration or pre-electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) administration, as well as assist with the identification of heart-related conditions.
No appointment is required for this service.
EEG
Routine electroencephalograms (EEG) are provided for in-patients and out-patients trough a third party contracted service which is on site once per week. These non-invasive medical tests record electrical patterns in the brain and help diagnose conditions such seizure or sleeping disorders.
A pre-booked appointment is required for this service.
X-ray
Routine X-rays (e.g. chronic pain, constipation) are provided for inpatients and outpatients of CAMH through a third-party contracted service which is on site twice per week.
Diagnostic radiology that cannot otherwise be provided in-house (e.g. acute pain/fracture, other capacity limitations of such portable x-ray equipment) is referred to other accredited facilities as appropriate to the investigation requested.
A pre-booked appointment is required for this service.
