We’re now entering the fourth and final phase of our historic redevelopment, which includes constructing the Research & Discovery Centre. This building will be a state-of-the-art facility to house all of our groundbreaking research activities. This seven storey building will be located on the southeast corner of the campus, near Shaw St. and Adelaide St. W, where the surface level parking lot is currently. The Research & Discovery Centre is expected to open in 2027.
Our team is sending a public signage plan to the City of Toronto to obtain approval for signage on and around the new Research & Discovery Centre. Exterior signage is necessary to help identify the building, support navigation on our campus for patients, staff, and the community, and to compliment the unique design of the building. CAMH is proposing 10 exterior signs in the building plans for the Research & Discovery Centre. The majority of these signs will only be visible from within the campus and will be installed upon building completion in 2027.
Many members of the local community will receive a notice from the City of Toronto about this signage application. Below, you’ll find details and information about the signage in advance of this process. You can also reach out to us directly to learn more or ask any questions. If you have immediate questions, please reach out directly to redevelopment.feedback@camh.ca.
We’d like to share with you some of the key features of the signs in the application:
- 2 ground mounted directional signs: non-illuminated, similar to existing wayfinding signs on our campus.
- 2 ground mounted CAMH signs: lightly illuminated and dimmable with the ability to be programmed with a timer. These signs will mainly be visible from within the campus.
- 5 donor recognition/research centre signs: non-illuminated, varying locations within the campus.
- 1 upper level building name sign: non-illuminated, similar to other building signs on the campus.
Given how big our Queen Street site is—over eight city blocks—it is important that visitors can easily identify the correct building they are intending to visit. Many of the buildings on our Queen Street site have upper-storey signs to help people easily find where they are going and locate themselves within CAMH. Each building on CAMH’s Queen Street site has a unique purpose, making it all the more important that our buildings are identifiable — so that visitors, patients, and family members can get where they need to be. These building signs will also recognize the support from our important donors. This building is not government-funded, so we will rely heavily on the generosity of donors to turn this building into reality. We thank our donors for championing our goal to put mental health at the centre of health care and for their tremendous support. CAMH is a global leader in mental health research, and this building will further research and discoveries that will improve the lives of people living with mental illness.
We’re committed to keeping the community informed about all aspects of this project. If you have any questions, please connect with us at redevelopment.feedback@camh.ca.
